Hmm, I'm really feeling indecisive over what to rate this...I love sci-fi and I love m/m, so was very much anticipating this book.
Just a few thoughts:
I did absolutely fall in love with Brady's voice. He is an angry and homesick 19 year old recruit and it was so easy to empathize with him over his fears over his family, situation, and attraction to Cameron.
The first 1/3 of this book was great. I loved the whole concept of Cameron forging a mental connection with Brady and needing to continually touch to survive. It was fun seeing Brady struggle to adapt to being forced to live in such very close quarters with Cameron, his superior Officer no less, and slowly realizing that he might actually not be so bothered by their enforced intimacy....which leads to some interesting 'experiments' between the two.
The problem is, the book started to lose a little steam for me at the mid-way point. I guess it's inevitable when the majority of the story takes place in their shared room, in a very sterile setting overall.
My slight dissatisfaction also had to do with how I felt the ending was a little too rushed. I found myself becoming more intrigued with the relationship between Cameron and his Faceless 'master'. I kind of wished we could have read their story, because SLIGHT SPOILERS: It was obvious that there was still an intense albeit twisted connection between Cameron and his master-After all, Cameron lived 4 years bonded/'enslaved' under him. This is also why I just found it not so logical that the Faceless (I forget his name) abruptly let Cameron go as well. Don't get me wrong, I love HEAs but I can't help but feel it would have made more sense, had more emotional impact, if the Faceless had just left with Cameron as he had always planned to do.
In the end, tentatively rounding an honest 3.5 stars up to 4 because of the great beginning and concept~
I would recommend any sci-fi lovers to give this a try. >.<
